Urban Supply Chain

Urban Supply Chain Symposium

LEVI was a sponsor and exhibitor at the Urban Supply Chain Symposium at HTW Berlin.

For the second time, representatives from municipalities and administration met with the cycling, transport and logistics sectors to talk about supply chains, especially the last mile.

The lectures were primarily about the problems the industry is struggling with, but also about the existing hurdles that are slowing down the scene.

These include a lack of infrastructure, cost pressure but also the difficult integration of new transport concepts into existing structures. At the same time, positive examples were also presented, such as the MOVE21 project in Hamburg, of what it can look like if it is done correctly. Last but not least, solutions were developed, such as what incentives should look like in order to be able to cope with the volume of parcels in the future with new rules. For this purpose, the participants met in smaller working groups that discussed various technical issues. The result was a variety of innovative approaches, such as a new delivery structure in which delivery to the front door should be a special feature and parcel stations should be given more weight.

There is a major point of criticism and consensus among logisticians about the fact that logistics still plays little or no role in city and neighborhood planning, although the volume of parcels continues to rise steadily and a variety of concepts are available.

All in all, the event provided a good snapshot of the situation in last mile delivery and the challenges that need to be overcome if the transformation of urban transport is to succeed.
